247 Benefits
Security
Using 247Backup to create backups of your vital data could not be more secure.
The website uses a Verisign SSL key to ensure all transactions are completely secure - from opening a trial account to paying for your subscription.
The backups that you perform are also ultra secure:- 247Backup uses military level encryption when preparing backups for sending over the internet. Once backups arrive at the 247Backup servers, they are protected by firewalls, staying encrypted, meaning that only people with the secret encryption key are able to access them.
247Backup will not access your data at any time, without your express written permission to do so.
FastBIT Compression Technology
Do you use the same files day-in, day-out? Perhaps you update the same spreadsheet every day, or add payments, invoices and purchase orders to your accountancy package? How does your current backup system deal with these changes? Many backup systems will store the whole file again, even though only a small percentage of it has changed. This uses up your valuable storage space, and costs you money.
247Backup has the answer - FastBIT™ File Compression Technology.
This revolutionary technology is an integral part of the 247Backup service, reducing each backup performed by up to 99.9% - because you don't need more capacity to store your data, you are saving both space and money.
FastBIT begins to work the third time a file is backed up - the first backup is a full backup, and the second is an incremental backup. From the third backup onwards, FastBIT compares the first version of the file with the latest version, and extracts the differences between the two. These differences are known as a Patch. This patch file is often 85% to 99.9% smaller than the original, complete, file which is where you make your savings.
247Backup Open File Manager
In these days of 24x7 business operations, documents and applications are in constant use. So how do you ensure that they are fully backed up, just in case you ever need to restore them?
Open File Manager is an intuitive aspect of 247Backup, that knows when a file or document is in use, and can backup that file without closing it or locking the user out.
Open File Manager works by monitoring the file system for read requests coming from the backup program. When the backup operation is initiated, it begins maintaining the Preview Data in a dynamically allocated Pre-Write Cache for all open files on the system. Only changed data is stored in the Pre-Write Cache, not entire files. When the backup application reaches the part of a file that has been changed, open file manager substitutes the original (pre-write) data from the Pre-Write Cache to fulfil the backup request. The file stored will then look exactly like it did when the backup process started, guaranteeing a complete and accurate backup and restore.
In simple terms, this means that a snapshot is taken of the data at the start and end of each backup. These snapshots are then compared with each other and with the last backup made of the data, in order to create a complete backup of the data, saving you time and money.

What Is 247Backup?
247Backup is an online backup and recovery service that performs regular backups of data saved on PCs and laptops, compressing and encrypting the data, before sending it securely over the internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to a dedicated backup server centrally located in Northampton.
How does 247Backup work?
247Backup has a simple Windows Explorer-based user interface, making it easy for users to schedule when and how often backups are performed, and which files they wish to backup. Once a user has scheduled their backups, the operating system takes over, running the backups automatically at the scheduled times when the PC or laptop is switched on.

247Backup is not an application backup tool - it is vital to always keep hold of any disks for applications installed onto the computer, in case they need to be reloaded as part of a system restore following equipment failure or loss.

Forming a part of the inherent intelligence of 247Backup FastBIT Compression. This technology is used to keep backups as small as possible. Much of the data on the backup schedule is in use every day with minimal changes made to it, including spreadsheets, word processing, accountancy software and CRM databases. FastBIT recognises these data changes, and will only create a backup file - or 'patch' - of the changes that have been made, resulting in the data storage volume used being reduced each month by an average of between 85% and 99.9%.
How do I backup open files?
For computers that are in constant use, 247Backup offers Open File Manager, which performs backups of any files, folders or applications that are on the backup schedule, but are open or in use, still form part of the backup, so no data is lost or corrupted. By monitoring the data on the backup schedule, Open File Manager is able to recognize all the data currently in use. a snapshot is taken of this data at the start and end of each backup. These two snapshots are compared, with each other and with the last backup made of the data in question, in order to create a complete backup of the file - without the user having to be locked out of the document for the course of the backup, or even having to save the information they are working on currently.
How secure is 247Backup?
Once the backup has taken place, the data is compressed and secured with military level blowfish encryption before being sent safely over the internet to the dedicated Backup Servers, held in a highly secure managed data centre located in Northampton.
How easy is it to restore lost data?
If you ever need to restore your system from one of the backups held on our servers, it couldn't be easier. Just open 247Backup, go to the Restore tab, select the files you wish to reinstate and click on Restore Now.
How do I know how much storage space I will need?
The amount of storage space you are likely to need depends on the data that you wish to backup. To find this out, open up 'My Documents', select all the documents, right click and select Properties, then click on the General tab at the top. The Size on Disk field will tell you how large the My Documents file is. If you wish to backup the whole of your 'My Documents' folder, then a fair estimate for the amount of storage required would be between 60 and 80% of your current data capacity - remember, 247Backup compresses your data before it is encrypted and sent over the internet for storage, so you only pay for compressed data.
